Rita Daniels, the mother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, has revealed that she never supported her daughter’s marriage to billionaire politician Senator Ned Nwoko from the beginning.
According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in an interview with BBC News Igbo, Rita explained that many people wrongly believed she arranged or forced her daughter into the marriage. She said she was actually the last person to know about the relationship and was shocked when she found out.
Rita said that during that period, she noticed her daughter’s behavior changing. Regina, who had always been respectful and calm, began talking back to her, something she had never done before. That was when Rita realized that something serious was going on.
“My daughter, who never used to throw back words at me, started throwing back words. I noticed she was beginning to get stubborn about it, and then I was like, ‘What is actually going on?’” she said.
She also explained that Ned Nwoko did not approach her about marriage until after his political campaign. Although she was surprised and unsure how to react, she decided to stand by her daughter’s decision. She said she felt weak but chose to support Regina because she did not want to abandon her.
Rita added that she has learned to ignore people’s harsh comments about her or her daughter. She said she would rather people blame her than insult Regina because what matters most to her is that her family remains at peace.
Her statement came after renewed attention on the family following a viral video where Regina accused her husband of domestic violence, which Nwoko denied, claiming her struggles were caused by substance use. See, More, Here>>>
