According to a report by Vanguard on Saturday, 5th July, 2025, the Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has indicated that the northern region might ultimately back Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, citing his history of honoring commitments and his offer to serve only a single term if elected.

According to MBF’s National President, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, the current political climate in the North leaves few viable options, making support for a trustworthy southern candidate more likely. He explained that any attempt to push a northern contender might be futile given the prevailing sentiment across the country.

Dr. Pogu remarked, “Getting a Northerner to contest is a problem and they must have to trust somebody that has a track record of consistency which Peter Obi seems to have.”

He further acknowledged that while trust remains a concern despite public commitments, the limited choices may force the region to consider alternatives like Obi or even former President Goodluck Jonathan, who would be constitutionally restricted to one term if re-elected. Pogu concluded that when options are scarce, even the most unconventional choice becomes acceptable.
