Security analyst Dr. Sani Shinkafi has alleged that Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle lacks the educational qualifications necessary to oversee national security.

Speaking during an interview with AIT from 5:30, Dr. Shinkafi questioned Matawalle’s credentials based on documents submitted during his 2023 ministerial screening. “Matawalle doesn’t have the security background and the security experience to also help in the formulation of policy on national defence. From the CV he presented to the National Assembly during ministerial screening in 2023, his educational background is not up to the level of Senior Secondary School Certificate. So how can you now entrust the national defence and security to somebody who doesn’t have any minimum qualification of a diploma?” he said.

The security analyst also highlighted that the former Defence Minister, Abubakar Badaru, who recently resigned lacked relevant military expertise despite his accounting background.

Dr. Shinkafi insisted that Nigeria’s complex security challenges require leadership with specific qualifications beyond general administrative experience. He argued that the Defence Ministry needs someone with direct military experience, security expertise, and comprehensive understanding of the country’s geographical and historical context.
