In a video posted by SYMFONI, Michael Piper, a representative of a civil society group, has issued a stern 48-hour ultimatum to Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi, demanding an apology and a change in behavior.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Dr. Piper stated, “We the civil society group are sorry, we won’t align with you. We are giving you 48 hours, so we are not telling you, we are giving you 48 hours Mr. Peter Obi to go and change your ways and then we can forgive you and go on working together.”
He further warned that failure to comply would lead to a total disassociation from Mr. Obi. “But if he continues what he is doing, we will be very glad to get rid of him and we will continue,” he added, without detailing specific grievances or actions that prompted the ultimatum.
The message has raised questions about the once-friendly relationship between civil society actors and Obi’s political movement. Many supporters and observers have demanded clarity on what exactly Obi is being accused of and what “changing his ways” would entail.
Analysts are watching closely as the deadline approaches, with concerns that such a rift between prominent civil society figures and the Labour Party leadership could impact political dynamics ahead of upcoming elections.
The video has also sparked online debate with many expressing shock at the tone and severity of the ultimatum. It remains to be seen how this conflict will unfold in the coming hours.
