Hon. Steven Omobamidele Agbi has stated that the northern region will strongly support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, during an interview with The Sun on Wednesday, 17 September, 2025.
Agbi, who serves as the Director-General of the Consolidated APC Grassroots Movement (CAGram), explained that fears about northern opposition to Tinubu are misplaced.
He said that many northerners have come to respect Tinubu because of his leadership style and loyalty.
He pointed out that there were political forces in the North during the era of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Many people believed those forces would stand against Tinubu after his election.
However, according to him, the situation has changed with time.
Agbi noted that northern political leaders and ordinary citizens have seen Tinubu as a leader who values relationships and keeps faith with his allies.
He stressed that Tinubu’s show of respect to Buhari, even after his death, has influenced the perception of many in the region.
He argued that this kind of loyalty is rare in Nigerian politics and has become a strong factor in winning over support from the North.
He added that the majority of northerners now see Tinubu as a leader with an authentic style of governance.
Agbi explained that this acceptance goes beyond party politics.
In his view, northerners see Tinubu not just as the leader of the All Progressives Congress but as a national figure who understands the importance of unity.
He further said that grassroots networks in the North are already mobilising to ensure Tinubu’s victory in 2027.
He believes that this will counter any suggestion of resistance from northern forces.
According to him, the combination of Tinubu’s leadership record, his loyalty to past alliances, and the trust he has built across the North will secure overwhelming support.
Agbi stated that the majority of northerners are now for Tinubu and that this reality will play a key role in the next election.
