Former Senator Shehu Sani has issued a scathing critique of the administration of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing it of widespread corruption and financial mismanagement from 2015 to 2023.

Sani’s statements, made on his verified Twitter account, have sparked significant reactions among residents and political observers.

Sani alleges that El-Rufai’s government looted Kaduna State, leaving an immense debt burden for future generations. “No amount of falsehood and disinformation will change the facts and figures that from 2015-2023 Kaduna State was looted and our children and grandchildren have been left with huge burden of debts,” he stated.

Sani’s critique focuses on the misallocation of funds, highlighting non-existent light rail projects and fraudulent bank loans tied to the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Sani described the economic condition of Kaduna under El-Rufai’s administration as akin to a “woman raped,” emphasizing the severe damage he believes was inflicted on the state’s economy. He pointed out the numerous uncompleted projects and contractual liabilities left behind, which he claims have suffocated the state’s economy. “They shamelessly left behind a litany of uncompleted projects and contractual liabilities that have suffocated the economy of our state,” he asserted.

The former senator also highlighted the visible wealth and properties accumulated by officials during El-Rufai’s tenure, suggesting that their claims of serving the state were contradicted by their amassed riches. He emphasized that the repercussions of their actions—particularly the lives lost and livelihoods destroyed—would continue to haunt them. “Every reasonable resident of Kaduna can clearly see and attest to the properties and wealth amassed by those who claimed to have served the state,” he noted.

Sani vowed that efforts would be made to recover the state’s funds, labeling the former officials as “rodents and their larcenous head.” His call for accountability reflects a broader demand among citizens for transparency and justice regarding the alleged financial improprieties of El-Rufai’s administration.
