Former Governor Nyesom Wike, who is now the FCT Minister, has criticized his successor Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to work with a three-member House of Assembly led by Victor Oko-Jumbo in Rivers State.
In a video shared by Symfoni TV from 3:28, Wike said that Fubara took control of the funds meant for the Assembly members led by Martin Amaewhule, stopping their salaries and allowances. Wike questioned how a governor could run a state with only three lawmakers. He also said that such a situation is not acceptable in a democratic system.
Speaking further, Wike expressed concern that journalists were discussing the issue on television and trying to justify it. Wike stressed that his concern was not about himself but about whether such actions align with democratic principles.
In Wike’s words: “You went and you seized assembly people’s money: their salaries, you took everything and you are running with 3-member assembly in Nigeria. And all of you journalists are appearing in your television houses justifying it”
