In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today From 2:50, Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), addressed the controversies surrounding his role during the 2023 presidential election and the accusations of anti-party activities that followed. Wike reiterated his decision to support equity, fairness, and justice, which led to his decision not to back his party’s presidential candidate.
“I said for the presidential election I was going to support equity, fairness, and justice, and in the other one, I was going to support my party. That is why we won governorship and national assembly elections,” Wike explained, affirming that his stand on the presidential election was based on principle, not partisanship. He continued, “For the presidential, I have no apologies because I don’t believe in injustice.”
Wike further clarified that his actions were not anti-party but instead aligned with his commitment to fairness. He defended his stance, stating that he stood for inclusivity and did not believe in excluding any group from political participation. “I never did anti-party. I did say we must stand for equity, fairness, and justice,” he emphasized.
Wike then shifted the focus to Governor Bala Mohammed, the Chairman of the Governor’s Forum. Wike accused Mohammed of endorsing the APP’s local government chairmen, asking, “The Governor is the one who sponsored APP. Bala Mohammed was the one who attended the swearing-in of APP Chairmen. So what’s all the hullabaloo, Wike, Wike, Wike?”
