A Former Federal Lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo has compared the petrol prices in Nigeria to other neighbouring countries petrol prices. He stated that countries like Ghana sells one liter of petrol about N1600 while Benin Republic sells one liter about N1800.
He argued that in contrast to this prices, Nigeria’s petrol price hovers between N600 and N750, indicating heavy subsidization. He argued that if petrol subsidy were fully removed, the prices of petrol would skyrocket to around N2500 in Nigeria.
He said in an interview with Arise TV From 16:25, ”Only Libya and Algeria are not importing fuel into their countries in the whole of Africa. Every other African country country are still importing fuel. Now let’s look at our neighbors and see how much they sell petrol. The petrol price in Ghana is about 1600 per liter, Benin Republic that is close to us sells for N1800.
Cameroon who is also our neighbour sells for N2000. India and China that we do trade with them are selling for about N2000, N1800 or there about. But in Nigeria, petrol price is hovering between N600 and N750. This should tell you that petrol is still being subsidized heavily in Nigeria. Because if Petrol subsidy is removed fully, petrol will go up to maybe 2500 naira in Nigeria.’….Vìêw–Morê
