Alwan Hassan, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), recently praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, asserting that it has significantly benefited Nigerian states.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News from 5:25, Hassan stated, “Since Tinubu removed subsidy, there has been no governor that came to Abuja for bailout.
Every state has enough to pay salaries and improve on infrastructure.”
His statement highlights the positive impact of the subsidy removal on state finances, suggesting that the move has empowered local governments to become more self-reliant.
Before the subsidy removal, many Nigerian states faced severe financial challenges, often requiring federal bailouts to meet basic obligations like paying salaries.
Hassan’s remarks reflect a shift in this dynamic, emphasizing that states now have the resources to manage their finances independently.
With the removal of the subsidy, Hassan believes the financial burden on both the federal government and the states has been reduced, enabling governors to focus on development projects and improving infrastructure.
Hassan’s perspective on the subsidy removal underscores the APC’s position on fiscal responsibility and economic reforms.
