A young lady who was said to have thrown her 10-month-old child inside a river in Delta State has told the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Bright Edafe, that she did so because her friends and other women abused her and told her that the child did not have a father.
Edafe disclosed the development on his X handle shortly after uploading an interview he had with the lady, who gave her name as Blessing Jonathan and who said she regretted her decision to throw the child inside the river.
According to Edafe, the lady said after she gave birth to the child, apparently out of wedlock, her friends and other women in the community abused and shamed her that the child did not have a father, and this was the reason for throwing the child inside the river ten months after giving birth.
Edafe disclosed that after carrying out the act, she and her elder sister went to report a case of missing child at the police station. However, while the police were investigating the matter, some residents found a child floating in the said river and brought the corpse to the station.
He added that it was at that point that she started crying and confessed that she actually threw her child inside the river.
In the video, the lady disclosed that though she knew the person that impregnated her, but she decided to take care of the child after the man refused to take responsibility.
Edafe added that she will be charged to court for a case of murder after the conclusion of the investigation into the issue.
