Senator Peter Nwaebonyi has continued to criticize former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili, following their heated exchange during a Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Petitions hearing on Tuesday.
The altercation arose from a petition filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan concerning allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to Nwaebonyi, the committee had mandated that all witnesses be sworn in to ensure credibility and accountability in their testimonies. However, Ezekwesili declined, a move that, in his view, undermined the integrity of the hearing and raised doubts about her motives.
What was expected to be a structured and formal proceeding soon spiraled into a heated confrontation. As tensions mounted, voices were raised, with both sides refusing to back down.
In a recent interview with TVC News from 1:57, Nwaebonyi, once again, expressed strong disapproval of Ezekwesili’s conduct during the session, accusing her of being disrespectful and out of place.
He stated that her actions at the hearing were a reflection of her overall character, suggesting that if she could openly challenge senators in a formal setting, she was likely to exhibit the same attitude in other aspects of her life.
Nwaebonyi went further to imply that Ezekwesili’s manner of speaking to him was an indication that she might also address her husband in the same manner.
Bringing her family into the discussion, the senator remarked that he had heard Ezekwesili’s husband was a pastor and suggested that he should pray for her to learn respect. He argued that a woman who could challenge a senator so boldly in public could just as easily disregard her spouse at home.
His words: “If she can address a sitting senator inside the Senate building that way, it means that her character comes into question. It means that she got to where she is by accident. It means that she has been pretending all this while. It means that she can also talk to her husband that way. I heard, the husband is a pastor, he needs to pray for her.”
