The former Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state, Chijioke Ihunwo has reacted to claim that he was among those who planned the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.
His reaction was contained in a post that he shared on his official X handle on Saturday.
According to Chijioke Ihunwo, he said the former Head of Service in Rivers state, Dr. George Nweke, while speaking during his latest interview on Channels TV, accused him of attending a meeting at the Government House where the decision to set fire on the assembly complex was allegedly made.
Reacting to the statement, Chijioke Ihunwo distanced himself from the claim. The former Obio Akpor Chairman stated that during the time, he had not been elected and he had no opportunity of attending any meeting. He said George Nweke’s claims are baseless and untrue.
Here is what Chijioke Ihunwo wrote on his official X handle;
“Normally, I would have chosen to remain silent in the face of such accusations. However, it has become imperative for me to address this issue in order to rectify the defamatory nature of his remarks, which could potentially sow seeds of doubt and mistrust among the people of Rivers State and Nigerians”.
