Ralph Bello-Fadile, a retired colonel of the Nigerian Army, has revealed his near involvement in a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s history. He disclosed that he was posted as the ADC to Ernest Shonekan, the head of the Interim National Government, which would have placed him in close proximity to Shonekan during critical events.

He stated that he never assumed the role, as Shonekan asked him to wait until his return from Malta. By the time Shonekan returned, political developments had unfolded rapidly, culminating in General Sani Abacha’s takeover.

He said in an interview with Channels TV from 7:26, “I was actually posted as ADC to Shonekan, which would have given me direct access to him during critical moments. But I never resumed because he told me to wait until he returned from Malta. By the time he came back, everything had moved too quickly, and Abacha had already taken over.”
