Segun Sowunmi, former PDP governorship aspirant, has stated that if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to contest the 2027 presidential election under the PDP, he could be the party’s “wild card”.

In an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Sowunmi said Jonathan has a strong political base in both the North and the South-South, and he also enjoys support among Christians and the Middle Belt region. He said Jonathan has not announced any plan to run, but if he does, it will create a serious challenge for President Bola Tinubu.

Sowunmi said he has been to remote parts of the North and many people in those areas are unhappy with the Tinubu administration. He said what they are saying about Tinubu’s government could move one to tears.

In Sowunmi’s words: “He may be our wild card because Jonathan will not have legitimacy problem in the north, he will not have legitimate problems in the South-south. He will have good numbers in christians, middle belt. He may be the wild card but Jonathan has not said he is coming out and I don’t look at people who are winking in the dark. I don’t join people to wink in the dark but if Jonathan does come out I can guarantee that Tinubu will have a problem on his table, and he will need bigger strategy than the one he is running now to defeat him. You don’t go around, I do. If you go to the far corners of the northern parts of this country and you know what they are saying about Tinubu’s government you will cry.
