Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has described his first-ever visit to Nigeria as a deeply emotional and memorable experience, recounting how he felt a special connection the moment his plane landed in the country.

Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Adarabioyo revealed that this trip marks his maiden visit to Nigeria, despite his roots. “This is my first time in Nigeria,” he said. “I felt the air when the plane touched down at the airport, it was a different kind of feeling. Special.”

The England-born center-back said that although he has Nigerian heritage, he had never previously set foot in the country. However, he now hopes to build a stronger connection to his roots and has made it a personal goal to visit regularly during international breaks.

Adarabioyo also addressed growing calls from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for him to commit to the Super Eagles. While confirming that overtures had been made, he said he is still deliberating on the decision.

“I’ve been getting calls from the NFF, and yes, the interest is there. But this isn’t a decision I want to make in haste. There are many things to consider, both professionally and personally,” he said.

When asked directly if he would be open to playing for Nigeria, the 26-year-old remained reserved. “I don’t know for now. It’s something I need more time to think through.”

Adarabioyo, who joined Chelsea from Fulham earlier this year, is eligible to play for either England or Nigeria. His defensive prowess and composed style on the ball have made him one of the most sought-after dual-nationality players by Nigerian football authorities.

As speculation continues, his visit and comments have once again sparked conversation among fans and analysts about the importance of diaspora talents to Nigeria’s football future.

Adarabioyo’s first steps on Nigerian soil may just be the beginning of a new chapter, not only for his career, but for the Super Eagles as well.
