During the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), acting National Chairman Umar Damagun openly expressed regret over the decision to reinstate Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.

In a video posted on YouTube from 4:15, Damagun admitted the move was not easy, suggesting it was made under complex internal pressures within the party. According to him, “It was a painful decision. Okay, I just want to stop here because maybe when we finish our meeting, we’ll brief the media appropriately. I think I’ll use this opportunity to welcome you again, and also, I’ll still use the opportunity to call on party faithful to stop arbitrary demarketing of this party.”

He warned members and stakeholders against actions that could further destabilize the PDP, urging them instead to channel their energies toward promoting the party’s unity and public image. “I want the media to note. If you so much love this party, I think it’s now time for you to divert your energy in propagating the beauty of this party and stop demarketing the party. Unless if you’re one of those that have been contracted to come and destroy the party,” he said.

Damagun’s remarks reflect the growing tensions within the PDP over key leadership decisions, as well as concerns about internal sabotage ahead of major political contests. His appeal marks a call for discipline and loyalty at a time when the party faces increasing scrutiny from both members and the public.
