In an interview with The Vanguard, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, addressed the upcoming Anambra governorship election and discussed the potential for a united opposition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
When he was asked during the interview about the best strategy to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu, Nwosu said that the opposition must form a united front comprising credible leaders and parties committed to a shared vision for Nigeria.
He emphasized the importance of setting aside personal interests, building coalitions early, and running issue-based campaigns. Nwosu noted that the electorate is seeking genuine change and that the opposition must present a trustworthy and competent alternative that reflects national unity and grassroots support.
He said, “It beats me when they say that President Bola Tinubu is hardly to defeat. I wonder, how, why? I went to Lagos and all I hear is “Ebi n pa everybody” and this echoes in all parts of the country. So where will he get the votes ? We’re all hungry – from the streets in Lagos to Port Harcourt, Kano, Uyo and Sokoto. Poverty, insecurity occasioned by bad government is devouring the nation. The All Progressives Congress’ governments have failed woefully. All Progressives Congress as a party is in delusion.”
Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu said that the ruling party would either remove itself from power or be removed by the citizens. However, because they want to include everyone in their rescue mission, they are building a broad-based coalition without discriminating against anyone.
He added that during their National Convention, they would adopt a Charter with Nigerians emphasizing that it is no longer business as usual. Nwosu stated that both old and new parties—including the PDP, APC, LP, PRP, and others—are all welcome to join the struggle to rescue Nigeria and position it for greatness.
