According to Al Jazeera, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant praised the armed forces following a targeted strike on southern Beirut.

This operation, conducted late Tuesday, was aimed at a Hezbollah commander believed to be responsible for a recent rocket attack that killed 12 children in the Golan Heights.

“Tonight, we have shown that the blood of our people has a price and that there is no place out of reach for our forces to this end,” Gallant declared, emphasizing Israel’s commitment to retaliate against threats from Hezbollah.

The airstrike resulted in at least three fatalities and left 74 others wounded, according to Lebanese officials. Reports indicate that the strike hit a densely populated area in the Haret Hreik suburb, a known Hezbollah stronghold. Eyewitness accounts described scenes of chaos, with emergency responders rushing to aid those injured amidst the debris of collapsed buildings.

The Israeli military has identified the target of the strike as Fuad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah commander. The operation was seen as a direct response to the deadly rocket attack on Saturday, which Israel attributed to Hezbollah, although the group denied involvement in that incident.

This military action has raised concerns of further escalation in an already volatile region, as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have been heightened since the onset of the conflict with Hamas in Gaza. The international community has urged restraint, fearing that the situation could spiral into a broader conflict.
