At least seven members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including a senior commander, a woman, and a religious leader, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Monday targeting a military installation in Iran’s Alborz Province, near the capital Tehran.
According to reports by Al-Jazeera on Tuesday, June 24, the official statement from the IRGC’s provincial command, carried by Iranian state media, Brigadier General Mojtaba Karami, the deputy commander of the IRGC in Alborz, was the highest-ranking officer killed in the strike. The attack marked one of the most significant Iranian military losses in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.

The IRGC identified the other victims as three additional senior officers, a female member of the force, a Basij paramilitary fighter, and a Muslim cleric serving as a representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to the Alborz provincial IRGC office. Their names were not released at the time of the announcement.
The attack, which took place as part of a broader Israeli operation targeting Iranian military and strategic assets, comes amid heightened hostilities between the two longtime adversaries. Although a ceasefire was officially declared earlier this week following U.S.-led mediation involving Qatar, Iran has accused Israel of violating the truce by continuing military strikes across various locations.
The death of Brigadier General Karami and other high-ranking personnel is likely to raise tensions further. Karami was widely regarded as a key figure in regional military coordination and internal security operations. His loss, along with that of the female IRGC officer a rare presence in the upper ranks of the organization has drawn strong public reaction within Iran.
The inclusion of a religious leader among the casualties stresses the symbolic weight of the strike, as clerical representation within the IRGC serves both religious and political functions tied directly to the authority of the Supreme Leader.
In a statement of condolence issued late Monday, senior IRGC officials vowed to avenge the deaths and reiterated the readiness of Iranian forces to respond to any future aggression. The IRGC also warned that any further Israeli violations of the ceasefire would be met with “decisive and painful retaliation.
