In an interview from 11:49 on Channel 4 News, Mohammad Marandi of the University of Tehran delivered a defiant message regarding the escalating confrontation between Iran, the United States and Israel.
During the exchange, Marandi declared, “Iran was a bridge too far. Iran will show America that they are messing with the wrong country.” He argued that Washington had miscalculated by underestimating Iran’s military preparedness and national resolve. According to him, Iran had been preparing for such a confrontation for years, particularly since the invasion of Iraq, anticipating what he described as eventual aggression.
Marandi maintained that Iran’s missile and drone infrastructure remains largely intact, claiming that many facilities are deep underground and have not yet been fully deployed. He dismissed estimates suggesting that Iran’s arsenal had been significantly depleted, calling such figures inaccurate and politically motivated.
He also rejected the idea that Iran would negotiate under pressure, insisting that the conflict is viewed in Tehran as a matter of sovereignty and survival rather than a dispute open to compromise. Marandi framed the confrontation as one imposed on Iran, contrasting it with what he described as a voluntary war of choice by the United States.
Marandi further stated that public support within Iran remains strong despite sanctions and military pressure, rejecting claims of widespread internal division. He argued that external attacks would only strengthen national unity rather than weaken it, and maintained that Iran is prepared for a prolonged confrontation in defense of its sovereignty.
