Former United States Vice President Mike Pence has openly called for a tougher American posture toward Iran, arguing that regime change, rather than negotiations, offers the most effective path to stability in the Middle East.
In a statement posted on his verified social media account, Pence urged President Donald Trump to abandon diplomatic engagement with Tehran and instead back Iranian protesters seeking to overthrow the country’s ruling clerical establishment.
“There is a better way for President Trump,” Pence wrote. “Help the protesters topple the ayatollah and his enforcers. Don’t crush the Iranian people’s hopes; give them the confidence to keep pushing against a regime that has no answer but bullets to any of their problems.”
Pence’s remarks align with arguments he advanced in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece titled “The ‘Deal’ in Iran Is Regime Change,” where he contended that Iran’s revolutionary leadership is fundamentally incapable of reform.
According to Pence, persistent unrest inside Iran represents a rare opportunity for the United States to support democratic change rather than return to negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program.
The former vice president emphasized that the fall of Iran’s current system would have sweeping geopolitical consequences beyond the country’s borders.
“If Iran’s revolutionary regime falls, the whole region gets better,” Pence stated, adding that such an outcome would significantly weaken China and Russia, which he described as strategic adversaries of the United States.
He argued that Iran currently serves as a critical pillar in a broader alignment opposing American global influence. See_More…
