According to report from Leadership, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially acknowledged the removal of Senator Samuel Anyanwu from his position as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This confirmation follows a formal communication from the party’s acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and the newly appointed acting National Secretary, Arc. Setonji Koshoedo.

This change comes amid ongoing internal conflict within the PDP. INEC also confirmed it received documentation for the party’s governorship candidates for the upcoming Anambra State election. The submission, jointly signed by Damagum and Koshoedo, presented Ezenwafor Jude C. as the gubernatorial candidate, with Hon. Okeke Francis Chukwudi as his deputy.

A letter dated May 7, 2025, detailed this submission, which was part of wider developments within the PDP leadership. Additionally, the party had written to INEC on May 5, 2025, informing the commission of Koshoedo’s appointment following a resolution by the party’s 600th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held on April 29. The letter requested that INEC update its records and support Koshoedo in carrying out his duties.

Meanwhile, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, spokesperson for Nigeria’s opposition lawmakers’ coalition, welcomed the confirmation of Anyanwu’s removal and raised concerns about an alleged move by Damagum to send a conflicting letter to INEC. Ugochinyere claimed this could jeopardize Koshoedo’s authority and disrupt the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for May 27, 2025.

Ugochinyere emphasized that the changes had been properly executed and acknowledged by INEC, cautioning against any underhanded attempts to reverse the process. He praised the PDP’s NWC, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and Koshoedo for protecting the party from internal sabotage.

Additionally, Ugochinyere called for the expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Anyanwu, accusing them of working against the PDP’s interests. He argued that their continued presence undermines party unity and progress, and that their removal is essential for the survival of the party.
