In a recent interview with TVC News on Wednesday from 38.53, Samuel Nwanosike, a former chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, made a bold claim about the local government elections in Rivers State. According to Nwanosike, the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chose not to contest the election due to a court ruling from the Federal High Court. This ruling directed the police not to take part in the elections and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to release the voters’ register.
Nwanosike argued that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State was afraid to allow the PDP to participate because he knew they would lose. He claimed that if the PDP had contested, Governor Fubara would not have won even a single local government area. Nwanosike added that if the election had been properly announced, he would have returned from abroad, where he is currently studying, to support the PDP’s candidate for Ikwerre Local Government and ensure a fair contest.
He emphasized that although he couldn’t personally run for the election due to constitutional reasons, he would have played a key role in ensuring their candidate won and exposing the governor’s lack of confidence in winning a free and fair election.
