Veteran actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has stated that no true governor should accept humiliation under any guise, even in the face of a declared state of emergency. Speaking with passion, he said he would never abandon his duty post under such circumstances.
“if I’m a governor that Tinubu declared state of emergency, I don’t need to tell you I will not leave that state house,” Okonkwo declared.
He emphasized that leadership requires dignity and courage, not cowardice. “They should either give me liberty or give me death. If I’m a chief executive officer and you want me to live on my knees, no, I will die one day,” he said.
He insisted he has no issue with Governor Fubara reconciling with anyone, including Wike, but warned that such reconciliation must not involve surrender.
“I don’t have a problem with the governor and Wike reconciling. I’m only saying it should not be at the cost of rule of law. It should not be at the cost of the security and welfare of the people of River State. And it should never be at the cost of the governor living on his knees.”
Okonkwo added that confidence is essential for any chief executive to function properly.
“A chief executive of a state needs a minimum level of confidence to operate. If you make him to live on his knees, he will not achieve anything reasonable. I will not be such chief executive. That’s why you should give me liberty or give me death,” he said.
