According to an report by Iran International on X, Iranian MP Ahmad Naderi’s recent warning that Syria’s potential collapse would have far-reaching consequences for Iran’s interests in the region has sparked concerns about the escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Naderi’s statement, posted on the social media platform X, emphasized the need for urgent action to prevent the fall of Damascus, which would allegedly lead to the loss of Lebanon and Iraq as well.

In his words, “Syria is on the brink of collapse, and we are calmly watching”

“If Damascus falls, we will lose Lebanon and Iraq as well. I don’t understand the reason for this silence; something must be done before it’s too late.”

The situation in Syria has been precarious for years, with the country embroiled in a devastating civil wàr that has resulted in significant humanitarian suffering and geopolitical instability.

Iran has been a key player in the conflict, providing military support to the Assad regime and maintaining a significant presence in the country.

Naderi’s warning highlights the importance of Syria to Iran’s regional strategy.

Damascus serves as a critical link between Iran and its allies in Lebanon and Iraq, and its potential fall would compromise Iran’s ability to project influence in the region.

The escalating tensions in the Middle East have been fueled by the ongoing conflìct between Israel and Hamas, as well as Iran’s growing presence in Syria and Lebanon.

The situation has been further complicated by the involvement of other regional actors, including the United States, Russia, and Turkey.
