The National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, has given his view on President Bola Tinubu’s performance and the prospects of an Igbo presidency, during an interview with Punch on Sunday, 17 August, 2025.
Prof Muhammad-Baba said it is too early to predict how President Tinubu will perform in the North ahead of the 2027 elections.
He noted that the first year of the administration is almost over, but the country is already discussing the next general elections.
He explained that there is still room for the president to improve and win northern votes.
According to him, the president can gain support if he delivers results in the remaining years of his term.
This includes listening to the people, addressing inequities, and governing in an inclusive way.
He said Nigerians, including those in the North, can forgive past mistakes if they see genuine effort and positive outcomes.
He added that complaints about governance are not limited to any region.
People in the South have also expressed dissatisfaction, suggesting that discontent is national, not regional.
He also commented on the discussion about an Igbo presidency.
While he did not give a direct prediction, he stated that national unity and fairness should guide decisions on future leadership.
”If the current trajectory continues, then yes, winning the North will be a big, big challenge for the President. But if he changes course, listens to the people, addresses inequities, and governs inclusively, then he still stands a good chance,” he said.
