In a heartfelt interview on Delafe Testimonies, Nigerian-born Joy Edjeren revealed a haunting experience from her early childhood involving a mysterious loss and restoration of her sight.

“In fact I was told that at the age of about 4 years old or something, I just went blind. They didn’t know what was going on. So my mom took me to my dad who is an idolater and then my dad took me to that same village. My older sister, she’s like, ‘Hey, I don’t know. I didn’t know where they took you, but you spent some days there and you came back and your eyes were restored.’”

Joy’s story offers a glimpse into the spiritual and cultural complexities faced by children growing up in some Nigerian villages. Her family’s involvement in traditional idol worship and the rituals surrounding healing highlight the challenges of navigating faith, tradition, and personal trauma.
