Former Nollywood actress, Joy Edjeren, has opened up about a traumatic experience from her past, revealing she was sexually molested and abused by a houseboy while living with her sister.

The revelation came during an emotional interview with Delafe Testimonies, where she detailed how silence became her only form of protection.

“I went to the city to live with my older sister. Her husband is wealthy and travels a lot to different countries,” Edjeren said. “One time, he came home with a Madonna DVD music video.”

She described the large household, filled with house girls, houseboys, and a chef. “These are like maids. They live there with us. I was being sexually molested and abused by one of the houseboys,” she recalled.

“In Nigeria, as a female, you can’t say anything. If you do, you’re the guilty one. So it’s better to just keep quiet if you don’t want to be beaten or disgraced,” she added.

“So when the sexual abuse took place, I kept quiet. I wanted my sanity. As long as I didn’t say anything, I had peace.”

Edjeren also spoke about further abuse she endured when her sister hired a teacher to tutor her in English.

“We would go to a different living room. When he noticed the house was quiet and no one was around, he would start to touch me again. I couldn’t say anything.
