A 26-year-old man, Chikwado Eze, recently died during a botched fortification ritual in Enugu State. According to a report filed by Punch, his father, Uwakwe Eze, revealed, “I took my son to a shrine, where he was buried alive in a coffin for fortification, but he later died during the process.”
Uwakwe, Chikwado had secured a visa to travel abroad and returned to their village to share the news. However, Uwakwe insisted on a fortification ritual to ensure Chikwado’s success overseas.
The native doctor, Enuwa Odugu, claimed, “Chikwado needed to be buried alive for 1 hour and 30 minutes to be properly fortified.” Tragically, when Chikwado was exhumed, he was found dead.
In a statement, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed, “A native doctor, Enuwa Odugu, and Uwakwe Eze, were arrested for conspiracy and murder of Chikwado Eze.”
Odugu confessed, “The death of the victim was due to his non-adherence to certain ritualistic rules I earlier prescribed for him.” He also admitted to performing similar rituals in the past.
Ndukwe assured, “The case is under investigation, and the suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.”
