Former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has emphasised the importance of sincerity and inclusiveness in efforts to restore peace to the state.
Speaking in a video shared by Channels Television 9:50, Wike revealed that while he has welcomed approaches from various individuals seeking reconciliation, true peace cannot be achieved unless all critical stakeholders — including members of the State Assembly, the National Assembly, and the two major political parties — are fully involved.
The words of Wike at some point in the video clip read, “I told our leaders that some people have approached me, and as a man of peace, I received them, and I didn’t pursue them, but seeing me alone does not bring peace. There are critical stakeholders that must be involved in this process of peacemaking. Nobody will be excluded.”
Speaking further, he stated that, “if any one group is excluded, there is no total peace; members of the state assembly, the national assembly and the two major political parties must be involved. In that way we will now know that we are sincerely talking about peace. We need peace, but let it be peace predicated on sincerity. Not a peace that when you come to see somebody and you turn on the television to see that they are abusing the same person. That cannot be a sign of peace.”
