During an interview with AIT, Chief Dan Ulasi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recounted a crucial conversation he had with Atiku Abubakar during the build-up to the 2023 presidential election. Ulasi, who served as the director of Atiku’s campaign in the Southeast, reflected on strategic missteps and underestimation within the PDP camp that may have contributed to their loss at the polls.
Ulasi revealed that he had warned Atiku and other campaign leaders about the political strength and determination of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the then-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He expressed concern that many in the PDP underestimated Tinubu’s capacity to mobilize and strategize effectively, especially given his long-standing influence in national politics and grassroots mobilization.
According to him, “In 2023, when we were preparing for this presidential election, I was the director for Atiku’s campaign in the southeast. We had emergency meetings. I told them that this guy, people have to sleep with both eyes open, that this guy is not somebody you push to the background, and he said, Ah, I’ll remove him. Look at where he is, president of Nigeria today.
