Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has recounted how he surrendered himself to armed men who came to his house to kill him in 1994.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Untold Stories With Adesuwa from 3:20, Atiku narrated that his eldest son, who was home on holiday from the UK, was the first person the attackers grabbed at gunpoint. He said when he looked out through the window from upstairs, he saw his son being held at gunpoint. He said he then decided to confront the attackers and told them to let his son go if they were looking for him. He said they took his son back to his room and held him hostage instead.

Atiku stated that the attackers later fled when they heard gunshots outside the house.

In Atiku’s words: “When I opened the window blind from upstairs I saw that they were holding my son at gunpoint and I decided to dare them. So I came out and said ‘look, take back my son to his room, if you are looking for me I am here’. So they took him back”
