The Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has postponed a divorce case brought by Aduke against her husband, Aremu.

Aduke accused Aremu of being lazy and depending on his parents for support while refusing to work. She shared her struggles, saying she worked hard to take care of their family, feeding and washing his clothes to make sure he looked presentable. Despite her efforts, Aduke said that Aremu often complained and became violent, hitting her in front of their children.

According to Nigerian Tribune, Aduke said, “I laboured day and night to cover up his inadequacies. I fed him and washed his clothes so that he could look presentable. But rather than show gratitude, all I got were complaints, slaps, severe beatings and punches, even in the presence of our children.”

Feeling unhappy and unsupported in the marriage, Aduke decided to leave. The court will continue to hear the case at a later date.
