Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed hope that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will soon be released, as reported by DAILY POST.
Speaking at a meeting with the South East Legislators Forum in Abuja, Kalu said he was working tirelessly to achieve this goal.
The meeting included lawmakers from South-East state assemblies, led by Kingsley Ikoro, Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
Kalu revealed that high-level discussions with relevant authorities were ongoing and urged the legislators to pray for the success of these efforts.
The Deputy Speaker also highlighted the importance of unity in the South-East and called for an end to the sit-at-home protests, which he said were causing harm to the region, stressing the need for collective efforts to ensure development and peace.
He advocated for the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) to address challenges in the region and urged the legislators to support federal initiatives and participate in the constitutional amendment process scheduled for next year.
“I am fighting for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to come out. Very soon, it will happen. Please, keep us in your prayers,” he said.
