Philip Shaibu remains the impeached Deputy Governor of Edo State until the Appeal Court determines it’s not necessary, according to Chris Nehikhare, the Edo State Commissioner of Communication. This clarification follows the recent legal battles surrounding Shaibu’s impeachment and the subsequent court rulings.

Nehikhare stated that although Philip had the right to challenge his impeachment in court, the government also holds the same right to appeal the court’s decision. “Shaibu Philip remains the impeached Deputy Governor until such a time the Appeal Court determines,” he asserted. This statement underscores the ongoing legal process and the government’s commitment to seeking a higher court’s opinion on the matter.

“Just like he had a right to go to court when he was impeached, so also the government have the same rights to appeal that judgment,” Nehikhare explained. He emphasised that the government believes the initial judgment was unjust and is exercising its legal right to appeal. This step is part of a broader effort to ensure that the legal process is thoroughly examined and all perspectives are considered.

Nehikhare further elaborated on the appeal process, stating, “We immediately received the Certified True Copy (CTC) very early yesterday morning and filed for a stay of execution of the court order. The first thing you do is file for a notice of a stay, which legally, once that is done and settled in all legal cases, the status quo remains.” This procedural clarity highlights the government’s prompt response and adherence to legal protocols in handling the situation.

In summary, Chris Nehikhare’s remarks shed light on the current status of Shaibu Philip as the impeached Deputy Governor and the legal steps being taken by the Edo State government. The ongoing appeal process will ultimately determine the final outcome, and until then, the status quo remains. The government’s actions reflect a commitment to legal due process and the pursuit of justice through the appropriate judicial channels….Seë_Morë
