Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has stated that if he were president, he would want opposition parties to be strong because that is important for democracy. He said a president should not be happy when opposition parties are in crisis.
In an interview with Channels Television from 33:46, Obi said that when he was Governor of Anambra State, he respected the rights of opposition parties to campaign. He said when he was contesting for re-election as governor, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola came to Anambra to campaign for his opponent, Dr. Chris Ngige. He said he gave Fashola official vehicles to drive him to the campaign venue.
Peter Obi said during that same election period former President Olusegun also visited Anambra to campaign for Andy Uba for governor. He said he personally took Obasanjo to the campaign venue in his vehicle.
In Peter Obi’s words: “Fashola is alive, he was coming to my state to campaign for Dr. Chris Ngige in an election I’m campaigning, and I gave him my official vehicles that drove him to the campaign”.
