Former Onelga Local Government Chairman, Honourable Prince Umejuru, has asserted that federal authorities in Abuja remain aware of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s continued backing within Rivers State.
In a media broadcast by Symfoni TV, Hon. Umejuru used biblical imagery to describe public support for the suspended governor. “Just as God has protected the children of Israel with the walls of Zion, that is how He has given us the strength to rally around Sir Siminalayi Fubara,” he declared.
He confidently stated, “Even in Abuja, they know that Rivers State believes in Siminalayi Fubara.” He defended the governor against what he characterized as attempts to damage Fubara’s reputation, noting, “Despite all the lies they have peddled just to ridicule the young man, and how old is this young man? He is in his 50s, and he has turned around Rivers State and given them peace.”
The former chairman warned opponents while simultaneously extending an olive branch, saying, “The same grave they have dug, they will fall into. But I will tell you, if they turn around and repent of their sins, Rivers State will forgive them, and we will move in one accord.”
He identified Fubara’s inclusive governance approach, explaining that when the governor says “‘Rivers first,’ it is actually ‘Rivers first.’ He does not want to know whether you are against or for.”
He concluded with an appeal for de-escalation in the state’s political crisis: “We are asking the gladiators and actors in this home video to sheath their swords because I have never seen any war won on the battlefield; war is won at a discussion table.”
