Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has sparked debate with his recent advice to men on marriage choices.
In a post shared via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Omokri cautioned men against marrying women of the same age or only slightly younger.
According to The Nation, he backed his opinion with religious, biological, and sociocultural justifications, urging men to consider traditional gender roles and the long-term implications of age parity in marriages.
Drawing from the biblical account of Adam and Eve, Omokri said the first man was mature and established before his partner was created, arguing that this pattern is instructive for modern relationships.
“Think twice before you marry a woman your age or even a bit younger,” Omokri wrote.
“Adam was already well established before Eve was created.
They were not age mates or even in the same age bracket. At all!”
He further argued that marriage should not be based solely on emotions or love, but also on biological realities.
According to him, men maintain sexual vitality into their later years, unlike women, who typically experience menopause in their 40s.
He warned that such mismatches can lead to celibacy or extramarital affairs, which he linked to increasing health issues such as prostate cancer in sub-Saharan Africa.
Omokri asserted that a 10- to 15-year age gap between spouses is ideal, particularly for men who want to live longer.
“Men who marry significantly younger women tend to live longer,” he claimed.
“But to wed your senior in age is to play Russian Roulette!”
His comments have stirred strong reactions online, with many questioning the cultural and scientific validity of his assertions.
