Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has described Canada as one of the friendliest nations to Nigeria, acknowledging its role in accommodating thousands of Nigerians over the years.

In a statement shared on his verified Twitter account, Sani praised Canada for offering Nigerians the opportunity to rebuild their lives, educate their children, and support families back home.

His remarks come amid reports that Canada recently denied visas to Nigeria’s top military officers. While he described the incident as unfortunate, Sani emphasized that it should not overshadow the strong relationship between the two countries. He noted that many Nigerians have benefitted from Canada’s policies, with a significant number living, studying, or working in the North American nation.

Addressing the visa denial, Sani defended Nigeria’s military leadership, commending the service chiefs for their efforts in defending the country against terrorist threats. He stressed the need for a responsible and diplomatic approach to resolving the issue, warning that it should not escalate beyond its current level.

“The incident of denying our service chiefs visa is unfortunate. Our military and service chiefs are doing a good job in defending our country from terrorists. This isolated incidence should be handled responsibly and diplomatically so that it doesn’t go beyond this level,” he stated.
