Former Governor Ayo Fayose has shared his thoughts on Atiku Abubakar’s future in Nigerian politics, particularly in relation to contesting elections.
In a video shared by Channels TV from 22:16, Fayose said Atiku should no longer be interested in running for presidency because by the time President Bola Tinubu finishes his term, Atiku will be around 80 or 81 years old.
Fayose also said that many Nigerians now prefer younger leaders and that the country is increasingly looking toward a new generation of politicians. He expressed doubts about the chances of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections, especially considering the current state of the PDP.
In Fayose’s words: “By the time Tinubu will finish, Atiku will be 80 or 81 years. So what will be the attraction? We should leave the stage when the ovation is loudest. I respect him and I think Nigerians are craving for younger generation than ever before, so what are we talking about. On what basis will Atiku come and contest again? When we don’t have a party how do we defeat APC? Peter Obi almost the voice of the opposition now. PDP is gone”
