Ibrahim Gambari, former Chief of Staff to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has stated that Buhari encountered difficulties when he was president due to the misconception the United States had about him.
In a video shared by Symfoni TV from 1:20, Gambari said Buhari once told him about a moment when he was invited to a meeting at the White House by U.S. President Donald Trump. He said Buhari disclosed that during their meeting, Trump looked at him and asked him in front of the camera, “Why are you killing Christians in your country?”
Gambari said Trump’s question stemmed from false beliefs spread by some American Christian groups, which wrongly portrayed Buhari as an Islamic extremist bent on killing Christians.
In Gambari’s words: “Buhari said, ‘Can you imagine that I was invited by President Trump at that time–Head of State of Nigeria invited by the President–we sat down in front of the camera, and he said, “Mr. President, why are you killing Christians in your country?”‘ Well because the perception from the Christian right that was given to him was this (Buhari) was an Islamic fundamentalist who is bent on just killing Christians in his country”
