Bestman Nze-Jumbo, an ally of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has emphasized that the governor has never been known to speak disparagingly about Mudashiru Obasa or any other political opponents.
In an interview with Arise TV from 22:26 , Nze-Jumbo stated that humility plays a crucial role in Lagos politics, especially within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obasa, who had been Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2015 and was serving his third term, was recently impeached over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
His removal has led to various speculations, including claims that his impeachment was linked to fallout from the way he treated the governor during the presentation of the 2025 budget.
He was said to have kept the governor and his team waiting for hours before the Assembly convened. Obasa’s subsequent comments after they convened, further strained the relationship.
Instead of focusing on the budget, he shifted attention to his rumored ambition to succeed Sanwo-Olu as governor. While he stated he hadn’t seriously considered running, he added that this did not imply he was too young or inexperienced for the role.
While addressing this development, Nze-Jumbo stated that no one can be bigger than the party. He pointed out that Sanwo-Olu’s ability to maintain composure and avoid retaliatory statements shows how humble he is. He said humility is a quality essential for political leadership in Lagos, particularly within the APC.
He said, “I’ve seen Babajide Sanwo-Olu. In all this, you will never hear him anywhere make derogatory statements against Obasa, or any perceived hindrance to his leadership of Lagos. That is to teach us that humility in all we do is key. Probably, Obasa never thought some 20 years back, or 25 years ago, that he will get to where he got to now. Humility is key in Lagos politics, you cannot rise above the party, especially in APC. I don’t know about other parties, but I know about the APC.”
