Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his remarks concerning the planned takeover of the Jabi Lake Recreation Centre in Abuja.
Sowore’s reaction followed comments reportedly made by Wike during his monthly media chat, which was broadcast on Channels Television and other national stations, where the minister insisted that the takeover would proceed regardless of opposition.
Responding via his X handle on Wednesday, Sowore rejected Wike’s stance, accusing him of attempting to appropriate public assets for personal interests.
“Well, Gov Wike, this will not require God coming down to Abuja to stop your criminal takeover of public lands for your selfish interests,” Sowore wrote.
The activist further called on Nigerians to resist what he described as a “land grab,” stressing that the Jabi Lake Recreation Centre is a public asset that should not be privatised.
“Wike must not take over the Jabi Lake Recreation Center and sell off our common patrimony. We have enough men and women of conscience who will resist this land grab,” he added.
The controversy stems from Wike’s earlier remarks, in which he reportedly stated that the decision regarding the facility would stand irrespective of objections, a position that has sparked public debate.
