Daboikiabo Warmate, a member of the PDP and political analyst, has spoken about claims that the embattled acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, is under the control of Nyesom Wike because of Wike’s support for him to remain in his position.
In a video shared by Daily Trust TV from 17:09, Warmate said in the 2019 presidential election, Wike supported Atiku Abubakar, both financially and with significant votes from his state, Rivers. He questioned why, at that time, no one accused Atiku of being ”in Wike’s pocket”. He said similarly, when Wike supported Governor Aminu Tambuwal, there were no claims that Tambuwal was in “Wike’s pocket”.
Warmate added that Wike, as a prominent leader within the PDP, has the right to support whoever he chooses. He argued that there is nothing wrong with Wike backing Damagum.
In Warmate’s words: “When in 2019 Wike supported Atiku financially and with votes (I think the votes Rivers State gave to Atiku was more than what Adamawa gave him) why didn’t these same people say Atiku was in Wike’s pocket. Wike supported Tambuwal, why didn’t these same people say Tambuwal is in Wike’s pocket? One thing I want to establish is that Wike’s has the right as a leader in PDP to support whoever he wants to support in PDP and what is the crime to support Damagum?”.
