Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has blamed the current turmoil inside the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on the actions of vested interests operating behind the scenes, according to a Daily Trust article published on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

He asserted that the party’s support base is still strong, despite the difficulties it faces.
Even in the midst of internal disagreements that may have undermined its position, Nigerians have maintained their faith in the ADC and have displayed unwavering solidarity, he stated.
Atiku went on to say that some events within the party give cause for concern about the possibility of outside intervention.
He stated that the crisis’s nature and scope point to interests beyond internal disputes among party members as its cause.
Atiku hinted to a party official thought to be Nafiu Bala, but he didn’t mention any names outright.
He suggested that the individual seems to be profiting from unusual advantages that are not normally available to someone in his role inside the party, implying the possibility of external assistance.
Additionally, the former vice president raised questions about the actions and behavior of the factional chairman in the wake of the crisis.
He voiced skepticism about the resources and security that the person was said to have access to, characterizing such advancements as incompatible with typical party activities.
