Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has sparked conversation once again with a bold statement concerning former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s continued interest in contesting for Nigeria’s presidency.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Adeyanju expressed his concern over Atiku’s persistence in seeking political power despite his multiple unsuccessful attempts.

In his words, “Atiku should rest.

Whatever he forgot in Aso Rock, they should help him collect it and send it to him.

He should be supporting a younger candidate by now; even if it’s a younger northerner, it’s still fine but not Atiku.”

This remark adds to the growing chorus of voices calling for generational change in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Adeyanju, known for his outspoken advocacy for democracy and youth inclusion, emphasized that the time has come for older politicians to give way to younger, more energetic leaders regardless of regional background.

Atiku Abubakar, who served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 1999 to 2007, has run for president several times since then, often as a frontrunner within the opposition.

However, Adeyanju’s message underscores a growing fatigue among Nigerians, especially the youth, who feel that recycling old leaders may not yield the transformation the country urgently needs.
