Olanipekun Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has shared an experience from 2019 when he lost his mother in Ekiti State
According to a report by Daily Trust, Olukoyede said during his mother’s funeral in Ekiti, he was given 17 cows, including pregnant ones. He said “By the time I got to my small compound, which I built several years ago before I joined the EFCC, I saw about 17 cows in my compound, including pregnant ones.”
Speaking further, Olukoyede said he was also handed a carton by his gatekeeper, and inside, he discovered several cheques and drafts from high-ranking government officials, such as ministers and directors.
Olukoyede revealed that after counting all the cheques, they amounted to nearly N500 million. He said he was surprised by the large sum of money that was sent to him and showed the cheques to his wife. He disclosed that he returned all the cheques to the people that sent them to him. He said “By the time we put all the checks together, it counted close to N500m”.
