Reinstated Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has given a harrowing account of the attack on his convoy, which resulted in the death of a policeman.

In an interview with Arise News From 3:17, Shaibu revealed that despite being assured by the Commissioner of Police (CP) that the town was calm and it was safe to proceed, his convoy was attacked by vigilantes and POOF led by Mutari

Shaibu stated that he, Senator Okpebholo, and the CP had a meeting prior to the incident, and the CP had given them the all-clear to proceed. However, as they attempted to leave, they were blocked by vigilantes and POOF members, who began shooting sporadically, killing a policeman.

Shaibu, who was visibly shaken by the incident, condemned the actions of the vigilantes and POOF, stating that he knows them and their modus operandi. He expressed sadness over the loss of life and reiterated his commitment to peaceful activism.

What He Said

“The CP said there’s no problem, the town is calm and I asked, can we go? He said we can go. Interestingly, when he called me for the meeting, Senator Okpebholo was around and I said he should join me and they can testify to that conversation. As we were about to go out, at the gate, there was serious hold up. Only to be told that people were outside, Vigilantes and POOF were outside blocking the gate and not up to 30 minutes, that they did that, I saw the Soldiers in the airport and they went to clear the gate and we came out.
