In a recent interview with Trust TV, Comrade Sanusi Maikudi, CEO of the advocacy group Network for Justice took aim at the All Progressives Congress over what he described as political hypocrisy and inconsistency in its dealings with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Maikudi expressed dismay that the APC which had in the past subjected Obasanjo to harsh criticism, is now seeking to align itself with the former president in a bid to regain public trust.

He alleged that the ruling party, following an explosive interview by former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, is now quoting Obasanjo’s past remarks in an attempt to resonate with Nigerians.

“When former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, granted an interview, they now resulted to courting Obasanjo,” Maikudi said. “After abusing Obasanjo in the morning, in the evening, they turned around to use Obasanjo’s words to communicate with Nigerians.”

Maikudi argued that this shift reflects desperation within the APC, as the party faces increasing discontent from citizens over its policies and governance style. According to him, the party’s attempts to rehabilitate its image by aligning with Obasanjo, a man it once vilified shows a lack of ideological consistency and respect for Nigerians’ intelligence.

He further criticized what he called the APC’s “pattern of political convenience,” warning that such tactics may no longer work as Nigerians become more politically aware.

The comments come amid growing criticism of the APC’s handling of economic and security issues, with many stakeholders urging the party to focus more on delivering good governance than on public relations maneuvers.
